SYNOPSIS
The Visit is about one woman’s carefully plotted revenge. The oft-widowed Claire Zachanassian, richest woman in the world, returns to the hardship-stricken town of her birth. The locals pray that her wealth will bring them a new lease on life, but her arrival carries a dreadful price.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
Claire Zachanassian (40s): A wealthy and enigmatic woman who returns to her hometown seeking revenge. Able to convey a mix of charm, menace, humor and vulnerability.
Anton Schell (40s): A shopkeeper and former lover of Claire, now struggling with moral dilemmas. Must portray the internal conflict between guilt, fear, pride and self-preservation.
Young Claire (early 20s): Appearing in flashbacks. Should be a skilled dancer with the ability to embody Claire’s innocence before her transformation.
Young Anton (early 20s): Appearing in flashbacks alongside Young Claire. Must be able to portray the sincerity and passion of first love.
The Mayor (40s): The conflicted leader of the town, who struggles to uphold his moral integrity. Should have strong comedic and dramatic abilities.
The Schoolmaster (40s): A man with a conscience who questions the townspeople’s decisions. Requires an actor who can convey intellectualism and moral struggle.
The Priest (50s-60s): Represents the voice of religious and moral authority, yet is ultimately swayed by the town’s greed.
The Policeman (20s-50s): A town official who turns a blind eye to moral decay. Should portray a sense of duty clouded by the pressure to conform.
Louis Perch (any age): The local reporter, eager for a sensational story. Requires a performer with comedic timing and an eye for the absurd.
Rudi (late teens): Anton's son is part of the younger generation struggling with the town's dark decisions. Display a mix of naiveté and disillusionment.
The Eunuchs (Jacob Chicken and Louis Panther) (30s): Claire’s loyal, physically imposing servants. Should be able to create an eerie, yet sometimes comical atmosphere.
The Townspeople (Variety of ages): Ensemble roles representing various citizens who are swayed by the promise of wealth. Strong singers and dancers who convey the shift from desperation to moral compromise.
